At BSE, we have a few methods to choose from to cover the cost of therapy services.
1. Self-Pay
2. Insurance
- We accept the following insurance:
- Inland Empire Health Plan also known as IEHP
- Molina Health Care
- Kaiser
Therapy may be fully or partially covered depending on the insurance carrier and benefit plan. Most, if not all times, for insurance carriers to cover the cost of therapy services, medical necessity must be met.
Medical necessity is defined as “services by a provider to identify or treat an illness that has been diagnosed or suspected. The services are:
- Consistent with:
- the diagnosis and treatment of a condition
- the standards of good medical practice.
- Required for other than convenience.
- The most appropriate supply or level of service.
When using health insurance for therapy services a claim for services rendered must be submitted to initiate reimbursement. When submitting claims to insurance carriers, identifying information such as name, date of birth, diagnosis, type of service, and a medical diagnosis is included on the claims.
In most times, insurance carriers’ requirement for family/couples therapy is that one person has to have a mental illness and the treatment goal and focus is geared toward that disorder.
Please verify your insurance information for specific details about your plan.
Questions to ask your insurance carrier may include:
- What are my mental health benefits?
- Is pre-authorization required for mental health services?
- How many sessions am I authorized for?
- Do I have a deductible and co-pay/co-insurance?
- Is the provider an “In-network” or “Out-of-network” provider?
- Does my insurance cover couples/family therapy?
3. Out-of-Network
- While we may not accept your insurance, we are still able to accommodate you and provide services as an out of network provider by issuing you a Superbill. This method requires you to pay for the services up front and you submit the Superbill to your health insurance company for reimbursement. Please note, the health insurance reimbursement rate may be less than BSE’s rate for services.
